The Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Allison Winnike as Director of our Western Region Team. Allison’s expertise and track record in public health emergency preparedness and response, immunization law and policy, health information technology and telemedicine are widely recognized. Her leadership in the western region will strengthen the Network’s work in advancing law and policy solutions through direct legal technical assistance and providing critical capacity building support to health agencies.

| Reducing Kids’ Consumption of Sugar and Salt through Changes in the National School Lunch Program Thanks to recent action by the Department of Agriculture, school lunches will become more nutritious. As the new federal standards roll out, states can support students’ health by increasing access to free school breakfast and lunch. Eight states have passed Health School Meals for All policies, providing comprehensive access to free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income. |

| Effective, Equity-focused Overdose Good Samaritan Law
Overdose Good Samaritan laws protect from criminal prosecution those calling for help during an overdose. While these laws have been adopted by most states, they typically provide limited protections. As a result, many are hesitant to call for help out of fear of prosecution for drug-related crimes. A recently passed law in Maine that provides immunity from all but a small number of crimes is a step in the right direction.

Senior Staff Attorney, Mid-States Region (Remote) The Network is seeking a public health Senior Attorney to work with its Mid-States Region. This position will focus on a variety of legal issues relating broadly to public health, social determinants of health and promoting racial and health equity. A preference may be given to attorneys who have a working knowledge of legal issues regarding collection and sharing of public health data.
Deputy Director, Harm Reduction Legal Project (Remote)
The Network is seeking a Deputy Director to support the Network’s Harm Reduction Legal Project. Under the direction of the Project Director, the Deputy Director will provide leadership and management for the project’s portfolio, support the team’s operations, and participate in strategic planning, management, and sustainability efforts. |
