Cannabis Legalization and Regulation
Potential Changes in Federal Cannabis Policy and the Anticipated Public Health Impacts
Overview
December 12, 2024, at 12:00 – 1:00 pm CT
Today, 74 percent of people living in the U.S. live in a state where cannabis has been legalized for either adult use (recreational) and/or medical use. While most cannabis policy development has occurred at the state level, the federal government is currently exploring impactful changes to federal cannabis law.
Join the Network for Public Health Law and the Legal Resource Center for Public Health Policy for a discussion focused on two significant areas of federal cannabis policy with critical public health implications: the rescheduling of cannabis and the regulation of intoxicating hemp-derived products.
By attending this webinar, you will:
- Learn how the Controlled Substances Act regulates cannabis at the federal level and the schedules that cannabis and THC-derived medications occupy within that structure.
- Understand the current rescheduling process underway at the Drug Enforcement Agency and how rescheduling would impact federal and state cannabis law.
- Understand other policy proposals that have been made to deschedule cannabis entirely, and what that would mean for state cannabis policy.
- Understand how federal law has created a market for intoxicating hemp derived products and the public health challenges created by these products.
- Learn how states have attempted to minimize the risks of intoxicating hemp products.
- Explore the potential changes in federal law aimed at addressing the issues associated with intoxicating hemp products.
